Crown Lengthening

Crown lengthening is a commonly performed procedure aimed at modifying the shape of gum tissue and bone to increase the amount of tooth structure available for the placement of a dental crown or bridge. This procedure is often necessary when a tooth is decayed or damaged below the gum line. Additionally, crown lengthening can be undertaken for purely cosmetic reasons, to address a “gummy smile” where excessive gum tissue is displayed while smiling, creating an imbalance between gum and tooth visibility. It can be performed on a single tooth to ensure the gum line is harmonious with adjacent teeth or on multiple teeth to enhance the overall aesthetic of a smile.
